On November 17th, 2011, Michael de Jong, BC Minister of Health, captivated the huge audience of students, faculty, nursing and medical staff, and local villagers during his tour of the campus at Dhahan-Kaleran. This was his third visit to the campus. Michael was welcomed by the CIES and GN Trust leadership teams. After touring the facility, he spoke recognizing the visionary work of Budh Singh Dhahan:
“Education and health are vital to the development of society, hence Budh Singh Dhahan’s contribution in providing better education and health care facilities in Punjab is laudable.”
Michael witnessed the signing of rural village development project between CIES and the village council of Dhahan. This project will build sanitary sewer facilities, water works, and lane upgrades. Funding of the project will be provided by CIES and with matched funding from the state government of Punjab.
The Minister challenged the students to fully take advantage of their learning opportunities and to give back to their communities after graduation. After having lunch the Minister joined the students for bhangra and delighted the audience.
